Noordwijkerhout – The Netherlands, May 11-15, 2022

The 18th International HLA & Immunogenetics Workshop (IHIWS) is almost here and we are looking forward to meet you there! The event this year will be held in Noordwijkerhout, the Netherlands, and more than 20 projects will be openly discussed by the project leaders, participants of the projects and workers in the field of histocompatibility and immunogenetics.

The workshop

The first IHIWS workshop took place in 1964 with the goal to bring together the HLA community. It involved scientists from several countries and proved to be a crucial event which led to more extensive collaborations in the following years. More about the history of the workshop can be found here. Nowadays, IHIWS takes place in combination with ASHI/EFI allowing people to discuss and develop tools that would benefit the whole HLA field.  In addition to providing a mechanism for exchanging reagents, the International HLA Workshops have also been promoting new technology and disseminating both reagents and technical skills worldwide. The current chairs of the IHIWS are Eric Spierings and Sebastiaan Heidt.

The database

A lot of interesting subjects are discussed in the workshop, which brought the idea to futureproof the data. Therefore, a database has been set where people are able to share their data with fellow scientists. The whole community can benefit from the IHIWS database. It is a central location when HLA specialists can upload their data and share them. The website will continue being functioning also outside IHIWS times, and project leaders and PIs from labs are 24/7 able to upload their data, making contribution easiest than ever.

GenDx is a proud sponsor of the IHIWS workshop and also provides a developer who is working on the development of the website. GenDx is also supporting several individual participants by providing reagents, software and/or service testing.
