Willem studied Life Sciences (Biomolecular research) at the University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht. During his studies, he has done two internships: at the University of Wageningen (department of Human Nutrition) and at the University Medical Centre Utrecht (Laboratory of Clinical Chemistry and Hematology). He has learned various techniques for studying immunological cellular mechanisms, as well as several techniques needed for identification of genetic disorders linked to coagulation. Willem has had a first-hand experience with transplantations, as he received a donor organ himself. Since after the first transplantation the donor organ was rejected, Willem understands the importance of a correct patient-donor match and he aims to contribute his knowledge to advance HLA typing by being part of GenDx production team.
